The core ideas for this task are that students will understand how to use the four operations to solve multi-step problems; how to find an unknown in an equation; and how to use various strategies that are helpful in solving problems.

**Task 3:**

#### Favorite Baseball Team

**Summary**

This Performance Task focuses on Operations and Algebraic Thinking and Measurement and Data. The core ideas for this task are that students will understand the need to collect accurate data and use computation to determine the answer to the big question; how to collect, display and summarize data; and how to use data, personal perspective and additional resources to justify an answer.

This Performance Task focuses on Operations and Algebraic Thinking and Fractions and Money. The core ideas for this task are that students will understand numbers enable them to use place value of digits to comprehend quantities, sequences and estimation; strategies are useful in solving problems; and the value of money.

**Summary**

This Performance Task focuses on Surface Area and Volume. The core ideas for this task are that students will understand volume; how to use multiplication to find volume; how to collect information for a proposal; and how to debate with others from a given perspective.

This Performance Task focuses on Numbers and Operations – Fractions. The core ideas for this task are that students will understand how to use strategies to solve multi-step problems; and the relationship between fractions and whole numbers.

This Performance Task focuses on Number and Operations in Base Ten. The core ideas for this task are that students will understand place value; how to identify values of coins; number patterns; and the use of computation to solve multi-step problems.

This Performance Task focuses on Operations and Algebraic Thinking: Number and Operations in Fractions. The core ideas for this task are that students will understand how to compare fractions; and how to use computation to solve real world problems.
